About Me
Mandy Harrison
This is me, in my kitchen- looking legit with my Le Creuset pots and pans. But I think we all know that fancy pots and pans don't count for much when you've got hungry people sharking around you at half past seven. Oh, wait! We've got that salty professor lasagna in the fridge. Evening salvaged.
Why do I cook? It's a way for me to be creative, and it makes me happy to feed people. My memories seem to all take place around a table, and when I can create that scene again, I feel connected to people I love, that were at that table with me. When my family talks about our travels, we identify where we were by recalling what we ate.
What do I cook? I really like to cook with sauces- I can remember the exact day that Mama taught me to make a white sauce. It seemed like magic that flour and fat and milk could turn into something that you could put on an old shoe and call it good. But- I do like to cook simply as well- sometimes it's best to just have the thing- the tomato sliced, the steak grilled. I try to cook in a healthy way, but I'm not super successful at that. I keep bacon drippings in a mason jar.
Why the salty professor? I am a full time professor at a regional state university, so I just thought it was clever.
